Fall sci-fi TV shows

Submitted by Amisha Upadhyaya

Every trailer for the upcoming slate of sci-fi TV shows. I mean EVERY.

What I’m looking forward to: “Stargate Universe.”  It looks like the SG franchise series is heading into “Battlestar Galactica” territory with hard-biting, darker drama, a beleagured commander, and young faces.

I hate to say it because I loved the old series but the new “V” shows promise with two actresses I love: Morena Baccarin, a mainstay of many sci-fi series sporting a groovy new cut, and Elizabeth Mitchell, most famous as Sawyer’s love interest (when not interested in Kate) in “Lost.”

“Eastwick” actually may have the combination of comedy and drama to make it an endearing surprise.

I do have to give a shout-out to the cancelled “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” It was great writing, a solid story, moving performances, and a fresh take on the franchise that blew the quadri-million movie with Christian Bale out of the water.  It got axed when — and I hate to say it having loved “Buffy” — shows like “Dollhouse” that seemed merely to be a platform to exhibit how sexy Eliza Dushku can be, were given another season and another chance.  The surprise finale on the “Dollhouse: Season 1” DVD gave a glimmer of hope that  Joss Whedon will get his tongue-in-cheek groove back on to satiate his fans in Season Two.

But this is an industry that axed “Freaks and Geeks,” “Arrested Development,” and many other worthy shows leaving us with a million forensic and reality shows so who knows what will survive fall.
